1. INTRODUCTION

Tank Consult Ltd is committed to providing a working environment in which you are able to realise your full potential and contribute to its business success irrespective of your gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, working status, age, religion or belief.   This is a key employment value to which all staff are expected to respect, uphold and promote.

In order to create conditions in which this policy can be implemented, Tank Consult Ltd is committed to identifying and eliminating unlawful and unfair discriminatory practices, procedures and attitudes and will comply with its obligations. Tank Consult Ltd expects you to support this commitment and to assist in its realisation in all possible ways.

This policy supports our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Policy.

  1. DISCRIMINATION

The following forms of discrimination are prohibited under this policy and are unlawful:

  • Direct discrimination: treating someone less favourably because of a protected characteristic. For example, rejecting a job applicant because of their religious views or because they might be gay or disabled.
  • Indirect discrimination: a provision, criterion or practice that applies to everyone but adversely affects people with a particular protected characteristic more than others and is not justified. For example, requiring a job to be done full-time rather than part-time would adversely affect women because they generally have greater childcare commitments than men. Such a requirement would be discriminatory unless it can be justified.
  • Harassment: this includes sexual harassment and other unwanted conduct related to a protected characteristic, which has the purpose or effect of violating someone’s dignity or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for them.
  • Victimisation: retaliation against someone who has complained or has supported someone else’s complaint about discrimination or harassment.
  • Disability discrimination: this includes direct and indirect discrimination, any unjustified less favourable treatment because of the effects of a disability, and failure to make reasonable adjustments to alleviate disadvantages caused by a disability.

Tank Consult Ltd aims to ensure that no employee or candidate is subject to unlawful discrimination, either directly or indirectly, on the grounds of gender, race (including colour, nationality or ethnic origin), disability, sexual orientation, marital status, part time status, age, religion or belief. This commitment applies to all aspects of employment, including:

  • Recruitment and selection, including advertisements, job descriptions, interview and selection procedures.
  • Training.
  • Promotion and career development opportunities.
  • Terms and conditions of employment, and access to employment related benefits and facilities.
  • Grievance handling and the application of disciplinary procedures.
  • Selection for redundancy.

Equal opportunities practice is developing constantly as social attitudes and legislation change. Tank Consult Ltd will keep its policies under review and will implement changes where these could improve equality of opportunity. This commitment applies to all Tank Consult Ltd’s employment policies and procedures, not just those specifically connected with equal opportunities.

3. MONITORING

Tank Consult Ltd will not tolerate unlawful discrimination or harassment of any kind and will take positive action to prevent its occurrence.

Breaches of our equality policy will be regarded as misconduct and could lead to disciplinary proceedings.

In this connection Tank Consult Ltd will monitor its policies and implement changes in order to improve them as social attitudes and legislation change. This commitment applies to all Tank Consult Ltd’s employment policies and procedures, not just those specifically concerned with equal opportunities.
